Letter: Reaction column makes classist assumptions

To the Editor:

Ethan Currens '10 MA'11 and Bradley Silverman '13 are pissed off at Daniel Moraff '14 ("Moraff's '14 entitlement is showing," Oct. 24). In their screed against his recent column on the Brown Corporation ("The horrifying makeup of the Brown Corporation," Oct. 17), they claim that Moraff's statement that "when the Corporation seems to embody the worst of the corporate world ... it shouldn't surprise us" isn't just way off-base, but it also "unmistakably indicates that the author is upper-middle class and white."
Ostensibly, only upper-middle-class white people are capable of demanding more student self-government, while the rest of us are just grateful to be here and happy to stay in line. Currens and Silverman are going to hate this, but we might as well call their ad hominem what it is: classist and a little bit racist.
