The key here is to facilitate a Luther-esque break from your established listening of the past months. Pick a band that you feel comfortable having on repeat for a couple of days and that embodies warm weather, light to moderate inebriation, and a bit of laziness such as the Strokes, Vampire Weekend or even Cake. I know Bob Marley was cool and smoked a lot of weed, but blasting it onto Wriston is the worst kind of cliché. Similarly, taking your guitar anywhere in public is like the 1982 Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands: no one is going to lose much sleep over it (or even know it really happened), but it's really f*cking irritating for the people involved. Dance and techno are appropriate, but avoid the temptation to rehash Rihanna and MGMT remixes, looking instead for something new that is not played out the windows of AEP.
