Mark Porter, chief of police and director of public safety, held his second session of open hours this semester last night at the Third World Center. Porter's Wednesday evening open hours started on Sept. 12 and will continue throughout the semester, both at the TWC and other locations throughout campus, such as dining halls and at student group meetings.
The Department of Public Safety is trying to take a "more proactive approach" to students' safety and concerns, Porter said, adding that similar open hours had been held during the second semester of last year.
"We want to engage students," Porter told The Herald. "Like last year, students came to ask about specific policies." No students - only a Herald reporter - attended this week's open hours at the TWC, but "last week (there were) a couple of people," Porter said.
