Athletes from w. hoops, m. icers claim weekly honors

For the second time in as many weeks, Ashley King-Bischof '07 of the women's basketball team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Brown went 1-2 last week, knocking off the University of Rhode Island in the Brown Classic on Sunday. King-Bischof led the way against the Rams, posting 17 points and eight rebounds. Both totals were game highs.

Earlier in the week, King-Bischof dropped 19 points in a loss to Marist College. She finished with eight boards in that game as well, including six offensive rebounds. In Saturday's loss to the University of California-Davis, King-Bischof chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Last week's three impressive games came on the heels of King-Bischof's career-high game two weeks ago when she scored 29 points in a 70-63 victory over Sacred Heart University. For the year, the guard is averaging 14.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds, both tops on the team.

Boasting back-to-back conference player of the week honors is nothing new for Brown. Sarah Hayes '06 and Colleen Kelly '06 were honored last year during the weeks of Feb. 13 and Feb. 20, respectively.

Rosen '10 coming up roses for men's icers so far

Men's hockey goaltender Dan Rosen '10 earned his first ECACHL Rookie of the Week award after another impresive showing. Rosen allowed a lone third-period goal in a 4-1 victory over St. Lawrence University on Friday and then took the loss in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Clarkson University on Saturday. The two goals scored by the Golden Knights were the most surrendered by Rosen since he gave up three in a 7-3 win over Wayne State University in early November.

Rosen has been a pleasant surprise for the Bears so far this season. At the moment, he leads the nation in save percentage with a .958 mark. His 1.37 goals against average is also tops in the country, .08 lower than the next closest goalie's, David Brown from the University of Notre Dame.

The first-year has stabilized the Bears' goaltending situation, which was unsettled entering the season. Adam D'Alba '08 had been Brown's starter for the majority of last season, but he left the team prior to the current campaign. Mark Sibbald '09 started only four games last season as D'Alba's backup, and the only other goalie on the roster heading into this year was also a first-year.

The men's hockey team will host Yale this Saturday at Meehan Auditorium.
